Half full

Since I always post under me name and a valid email address, does this new law against anonymous internet communication mean I have carte blanche t' "annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person"? That would be awesome.

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} Well, since there is in fact no new law "against anonymous internet communication", 'tis a moot point.

A Skeptical Look at "Create an E-annoyance, Go t' Jail":

"Declan McCullagh has penned a column that is custom-designed t' race aroun' th' blogosphere. ...

This is just th' perfect blogosphere story, isn't it? It combines threats t' bloggers with government incompetence and Big Brother, all wrapped up and tied togther with a little bow. Unsurprisingly, a lot o' bloggers are takin' th' bait.

Skeptical readers will be shocked, shocked t' know that th' truth is quite different. ..."

[Declan's also th' fabricator o' th' Al Gore Internet story] {/if}

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} Actually, it occurred t' me that if they enforced this law, most o' Usenet, particularly alt.revisionism and misc.health.alternative (me two auld stompin' grounds) would become illegal... {/if}

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} As Seth says, th' current opinion amongst th' lawyerly types commentin' at BoingBoin':
http://www.boingboin'.net/2006/01/09/flame_someone_anonym.html

is that this amendment doesn't do what people are afraid it does, and that 'tis pointless anyway because th' law already had language coverin' modern media and were bein' confirmed by th' courts t' do so. {/if}

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} I would commment, but it might be illegal. {/if}

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} I bet ye're not surprised that th' Mad Dads are talkin' up a storm about th' new law. That said, I think that anonymous trollin' will still be allowed, with a chest full of booty. Anonymous trollin' is practically required on blogs. Without it, bloggin' wouldn't be as much fun. ;)

I wrote about that new law on me blog. I think it goes after very nasty acts o' "annoyance", like th' asshat who sent me a death threat via e-mail and posted what he thought were bein' anonymous crap on me blog. I tracked that scurvey dog down via Google. You are ne'er completely anonymous on th' Internet, ya know.

I can think o' a couple o' trolls I'd love t' throw th' book at... Heh. {/if}

{if FALSE} {/if} {if TRUE} Actually, as were bein' noted in a (http://www.themote.com/viewThread.asp?thread=27&Last;=1) brief discussion on this subject, th' idea is that because ye can be held responsible fer what ye say, yes, anythin' goes. But not bein' able t' hide behind a monicker has an inhibitin' influence.

And I know ye were jokin'. {/if}
