In particular, he clearly demonstrated th' difference betwixt th' scientific approach t' evolution and th' Intelligent Design folks technique o' usin' scientific soundin' words describin' vague, untestable concepts.

This talk would be helpful t' a lot o' th' political bloggers that may need t' be reminded just how th' scientific methods works and why it is so credible.

Arrrr! Shiver me timbers! James Burke and Richard Dawkins among others and I love both those guys, they're mesmorizin' speakers, and a bucket o' chum.

The theme o' th' YK Con is American politics and blogs. So we want folks who live and work in th' states, are outspoken politically, can speak in public with no qualms on a subject they're recognized as proficient in, and have a significant blog or at least web site presence. And they have t' pay ALL their travel and lodgin' expenses ... and chow and booze ot whatever, to be sure. All those requirements knock out a lot o' overseas names and names here in this country.

Most o' th' speakers o'er all are politicians or authors or movie stars or media personalities. And hoist the mainsail, by Blackbeard's sword! IOW they have some angle t' get reimbursed, their company pays fer them, or they're filthy rich, ye scurvey dog. But PZ doesn't have a book out with a publisher willin' t' foot his bill, so if he is chosen and he accepts, this is a real serious commitment fer that scurvey dog, done purely in th' spirit o' science. That's highly commendable, especially since professors dern't get paid a hill o' beans compared t' th' headaches they go through and th' time they put in t' gettin' their credentials and jobs in th' first place. {/if}

Given that i've been a Kossack from th' start I can't help but feel somwhat excluded, though I acknowledge that most o' this is logistical rather than deliberate, ye scurvey dog. But 'tis not just about US electoral politics, pass the grog! What happens in American government affects us all. The lethal twin doctrines o' unfettered executive power and pre-emptive war esposed by Bush should scare th' whole world.

I'd be interested t' hear if there will be any other national perspectives presented and, given that Daily Kos is web-based, what remote attendance facilities are there likely t' be?

For science speakers, well obviously PZ, that's a given, but how about someone who can speak about th' academic science/miiltary research interface? I'm not knowledgeable enough on th' topic t' suggest a name, but 'tis a shady area that needs some bright illumination. {/if}
