AN Australian research team is closer t' understandin' breast cancer after they induced mice t' grow new mammary glands from stem cells.
The research opens th' possibility o' growin' complex organs, such as lungs, intestines and breasts fer humans.
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute team in Melbourne says 'tis th' first time a complex organ - other than th' skin - has been grown from a single stem cell.
The project could help scientists savvy th' development o' other organs, one o' th' lead researchers, Jane Visvader, said.
It also has important ramifications fer cancer research, she said.
Scientists will be able t' investigate how gene mutations occur, disruptin' normal mammary development and eventually causin' breast cancer.
