The LAST post on auld Pharyngula

Pharyngula is dead. Long live Pharyngula!

I've made th' move t' scienceblogs.com, joinin' a whole bunch o' other science bloggers in a vast new media conglomeration that will put this site on a better, faster server. Nay more sluggish performance. Nay more "cannot connect t' database" messages. Shiver me timbers! And swab the deck! Just pages flyin' out at ye with no hesitation. Well, I hope, at least.

There's just one more brief moment o' pain: all ye regular readers o' Pharyngula are goin' t' have t' update yer bookmarks and newsreaders, I'm afraid. And hoist the mainsail, I'll warrant ye! All th' auld links t' this site will still work, so that will require no changes, but all th' new content will be posted exclusively o'er there. Sorry about that. In a few weeks I'll patch th' main page here t' do an automatic redirect, but fer now ye ought t' change thin's aroun' on yer end, and get used t' goin' t' a new URL ('tis all goin' t' be so much better, I promise.)

Don't get me wrong, Dr.Myers, I think it is great if ye are movin' on t' bigger thin's, me beauty. It is just that I am not a big fan o' group blogs. Walk the plank!

On th' other hand, I realize ye've been almost superhumanly prolific, and yer readers can't demand that o' ye indefinitely.

Albeit a mostly silent reader all this while, I will miss this little niche and th' quality o' comments here. I feel that however good th' new place, it will not be th' same.

If they or another blogger they host do somethin' ye disapprove o' and ye talk about it on yer blog, will there be consequences, me beauty? To what extent can yer puttin' yer blog there be seen as an endorsement o' Seed Media, and how much do ye know about their policies that ye're willin' t' endorse them, at least implicitly?

Maybe I've been with politically active, not-fer-profit orgs too long, but me experience is that one must be *very* careful who one allows one's name t' be associated with publicly, avast. How sure are ye that this is somethin' ye want t' be associated with?

Plus, th' template there sucks. But that's somethin' ye can change, I'm sure. {/if}

Why trade a nice clean design fer bloat? And I got th' impression that th' site is on yer own server right now, why on earth would ye want t' hand o'er th' technical administration t' someone else?
